UNISA – Summary of 2010 Posts

  • Comments 7

Blue Male Student in a Graduation Cap, Reading a Book and Leaning Against a Stack of Books Clipart Illustration This is my last year for part-time studies at UNISA and I hope … somehow I doubt it though … that once I complete the part-time degree in November, that I put aside my private time for more relaxing adventures such as Farmville or just reading a thriller or science fiction book. This year I have to complete one semester course and two year courses, which include “operating system concepts”, “advanced programming” and “formal logic”. I have created a new category “UNISA” which I will use to share nuggets I pickup this year and collaborate with other fellow students ploughing through these subjects.

This post aggregates all UNISA posts this year and will be updated as new posts are available:

Formal Logic

Content references the book Language Proof and Logic, by Jon Barwise and John Etchemendy.

Operating System Concepts

Content references MSDN and the book “Operating System Concepts 8th Edition”, by Silverschatz, Galvin and Gagne.

Design patterns in C++

Content references MSDN and the book “An Introduction to Design patterns in C++ with QT 4.

You can find this post by navigating to the table of content list on my blog, typically on the left navigation bar.

  • Have you ever thought of contributing to www.wikistudent.ws,

    they could use your help. Especially, for cos311-4.

  • Hi Willy. Glad to see someone else also running the war games. I've got 8 year modules this year (all the 3rd year Soft. Eng. stream), so I understand your pain in doing this whilst keeping down a job and other obligations. Special thanks for your notes on Chpt. 10 / 11 of OS concepts, as they saved me plenty time just revising and adding some information to my study methods.

    Let me know if you need any help on other subjects and I'll lend a hand where I can. Just drop a message here and I'll get in contact.

  • Hi, do you have any basic notes on how to start drawing UML diagrams?

  • I would either look at the UNISA books that are part of the syllabus, http://www.uml.org/ if you are looking for the OMG view, at www.eclipse.org/.../article.html if you are an Eclipse user and vsarchitectureguide.codeplex.com if you are using Visual Studio 2010 (my recommended favourite).

  • Hi Willy.Thank you. I really would like some basi notes on how one would go about drawing UML diagrams for eg, in the exam when we are given a question, what is the starting point and ending point, what are the factors to consider? Do you have a summary or pictures or basic UML diagrams as examples to revise for the exam?

  • I do not have a summary that is ready for sharing yet, but will create a relevant post while preparing for the 3114 exam in due course.

  • Thank you Willy, that would be appreciated as in the exam, we would not use visual tools, only a pen and paper.
