At July’s 2013 Worldwide Partner Conference, the Windows Embedded team was excited to announce our plans to transition program administration of the Windows Embedded Partner Program ecosystem into the Microsoft Partner Network (MPN). Integrating with MPN enables us to offer our partners more program options, and greater partner benefits. Among these program options, we highlighted the launch of an all-new Intelligent Systems Specialization, designed for partners with an end-to-end intelligent-systems solution offering and business practice. This month, we are excited to announce new developments that will deliver more value than ever before to our intelligent systems partners: in January 2014, MPN will launch an all new Intelligent Systems Competency in place of the previously planned specialization.
Leading up to and since the announcement the market has continued to see rapid growth as partners have picked up on the enormous business opportunity surrounding intelligent systems solutions. A 2013 IDC report estimates that by 2017, intelligent systems will represent over 87 percent of worldwide embedded systems revenue, which represents a market of more than $2.7 trillion.
Microsoft is committed to encouraging innovation and commitment among our intelligent systems partners, and want to provide them the highest possible level of support and resources they need to help them grow their business. Within the Microsoft Partner Network, the competency program—comprised of 23 unique competencies based on key Microsoft solution areas—offers the highest level of value to partners. A recent IDC study estimates that a Microsoft competency program provides partners with total benefits valued at more than $320,000.

It’s always a thrill when I learn about inventive and advanced solutions our partners have developed using our products and core technology. Omnicell’s intelligent systems solutions for healthcare, built on the Microsoft platform, including Windows Embedded, successfully addresses the workflow and problems faced by pharmacy, nursing, materials management and IT departments. Our recently published story—and corresponding video—show the highlights of this truly innovative solution; here, we’ll go a little deeper into the technology.
The Omnicell G4 medication management solution and Omnicell Anesthesia Workstations have been built with Windows Embedded Standard 7, which provides a strong platform to help streamline workflow and increase efficiency. Great River Medical Center is just one of the many customers who have benefited from the powerful platform designed to manage drug inventory in real time.
In the Great River Medical Center the pharmacy utilizes the Omnicell G4 inventory management carousel, which runs Windows Embedded Standard 7, to automate the retrieval of medication from shelves while tracking inventory. A high-speed unit dose packager speeds the preparation of individual doses of medication, saving additional prep time for pharmacists. When inventory drops below a preset level, the Omnicell WorkflowRx software automatically reorders the medication from the wholesaler. The carousel takes up about one-fifth of the floor space of the old shelves, but stores three times as much medication.
The launch of Windows Embedded 8 through Volume Licensing is not only big news for enterprises, it’s also an important milestone for our solution partners and transactional partners that are just being introduced to Windows Embedded, as it expands and deepens opportunities in the growing intelligent systems market.
According to IDC, the intelligent systems market is expected to reach $2.3 trillion in revenue by 2016 – more than double the estimated 2012 market size. Partners that create devices and solutions with Windows Embedded 8 will be well positioned to capitalize on this growth by offering their enterprise customers an added level of value, including direct critical features and functionality from Microsoft.
The Windows Embedded Partner Program team congratulates our ecosystem partners who recently received a Partner Excellence Award. The Windows Embedded Partner Excellence Awards recognize members of the Windows Embedded Partner Program that excel at driving the Windows Embedded business. Their contributions help bring solutions to market that support the development of intelligent systems worldwide.
Thanks to all the partners who submitted nominations. Below is a summary, by category, of the winning partners.
