    Compete Corner

    Posted By Mark Pendergrast
    Senior Product Manager

Let’s face reality. For our customers and partners, every day comes with lots of choices – from deciding on which component to use for their motherboard, to what application to build/deploy, to which markets and opportunities to pursue to build their business. It’s no different in picking which operating system to use for their specialized device. There’s a rich selection of alternatives from which to pick, including many flavors of Linux, Google’s Android, and of course our broad set of options in the Windows Embedded family. However, like many things in business, this preponderance of choice offers both opportunities and also challenges for the market. On the one hand, it gives customers and partners many options from which to pick and choose for their specific needs, but it can also be overwhelming. Making a poor choice could add cost, delays, and complications that hadn’t been anticipated.

It’s in this light that I hope to provide some value from The Compete Corner here on the Windows Embedded blog. As the compete lead for the organization, my role is to ensure that our customers, partners and internal teams have the full and accurate picture on the value of the Windows Embedded solutions and help them make good decisions with Windows Embedded as their OS choice. And of course all of this in interest of spurring healthy competition.

Europe says “Ciao” to the new Ford Fiesta with SYNC

    Posted By Chris Elliott
    Senior Marketing Communications Manager

    The year is 1976.

ABBA, Queen and Rod Stewart rule the airwaves, while “Rocky”and “A Star is Born” dominate at the box office.

It was in 1976 that Ford first launched the Ford Fiesta—a small but mighty hatchback which has gone on to become one of Ford’s global best-sellers, with over 15 million sold.

Thirty-six years later, Ford is introducing the newest Fiesta to Europe by hosting an event in Rome at the famed Cinecittà Studios lot, where drivers put Fiestas to the test. Driving through the location where movies like “Roman Holiday” and “Ben-Hur” were filmed adds something to the Fiesta test-drive experience, to say the least!

Clearly, there’ve been a lot of changes to the Fiesta over the years—most notably, its technology. In the 1976 Fiesta, you would have been lucky to get an FM radio. Today it comes with one of the most comprehensive suites of in-car connectivity features available in a small car: Ford SYNC. In fact, 2012 marks the introduction of SYNC to the Fiesta in Europe, a major milestone in Ford’s approach to democratizing technology, making advanced features more broadly available to customers.

The overwhelming favorite was the ability to control SYNC with your voice. Many of you loved the Audible text messaging feature, and told us that going hands- and eyes-free makes you drive safer.
