Vijay, the Dev Center has some good content to help you get started using the canvas element in you HTML5 based Metro style app, msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh465064.aspx.

You don't need to run your game from a server. You can package all of the game content using Visual Studio. When users install your game all of your game logic and your canvas elements will run locally on their system. I wish to develop a HTML5 based game for w8, which is fluid. My questions are:

1) Canvas requires that the app runs from a server, not like file:///c:/... Will the app be running via a server?

2) Will the same app/code run on the [future] w8 phones?

"Making money with your app" - I guess that's what it's all about, right? What about open source solutions? For example, can I share the code of a metro-style app with everybody on the web and will anybody who downloads it be able to compile and run it (maybe with own modifications) on their machine? Or do I need to pay for a developer license to do so?
