I thought I'd post some of the key points that came out of the panel session yesterday. Across the panelists there were some common themes that appeared, here are some of the points I picked up as I was chairing the session (they are not in any particular order);

  • Ensure you have a Mobile Strategy for your company - just like you would have an Infrastructure Strategy, Application Strategy, DR Strategy.
  • The mobile device in our pockets today is really a mobile computer, not simply a phone, and we need to be designing/planning with that in mind.
  • Security & Management must be mandatory when considering a mobile platform.
  • Convergence of devices is bringing a proliferation of capability - the need to use/leverage different data types is important. Decide where to use Media v's simple text to optimise impact.
  • The UI is about "delighting" the user.
  • Write your software to optimise the battery life, batteries are improving but an applications design can have a big impact on battery life.
  • Mobile devices today have around 14 antenna's in them.

The session went really well from my side of the microphone - I would be interested to hear comments from anyone who was in the session.
