Last week I posted about updates including purchasing of apps from the PC had gone live. At the time I noted that changes were coming to enable Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 devices to purchase apps from Marketplace.

On Tuesday morning Oz time the product team posted that the 6 and 6.1 clients were now available for download. The full blog from the Windows phone team is at http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windowsphone/archive/2009/11/16/windows-marketplace-for-windows-mobile-6-0-and-6-1.aspx

For developers this is an important milestone, as the opportunity is now to reach more than 30 million devices world wide. So if you have an existing application for Windows Mobile 6 or 6.1 now is the time to get your submission into Marketplace.

If you own a Windows Mobile 6 or 6.1 phone then here’s how you can download the client – remember you’ll need to have a data plan for your phone, or use WiFi. In Australia you will need to download the client direct from your phone

    • Start the download process, and install the CAB file to your device

It is estimated that 90% of applications in Marketplace today support Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1

To purchase apps from Marketplace you need a LiveID and your credit card – you can setup this association by

1. Visiting http://marketplace.windowsphone.com, click on Account Settings
