Step into the arena of the newest and hottest sport of the future … Monday Night Combat! Load up on ammo and prepare to battle a serious assortment of heavily-armored and weaponized robots, or go Crossfire in team vs. team combat as you attempt to destroy the other team’s prized moneyball (basically, their home base). In one of the wildest and hectic third-person shooter games out on Xbox LIVE Arcade, Monday Night Combat promises to be a multiplayer classic sure to develop a committed following.
Right from the beginning, you are plunged into the gameplay with a clever opening tutorial showing you how to fire and reload your weapon, upgrade your skills, and even how to modify the playfield. One of the unique aspects of the game is that you can build defensive turrets that will help take out enemy forces. Planning on exactly how much money to spend on skill upgrades or defensive installations is one of the strategic choices players must make.
Another choice is what type of player you want to be. There are six different classes in the game: Assault, Tank, Support, Assassin, Gunner, and Sniper, and there’s the ability to create custom classes (need some credits for that, though). Each class has its own offensive and defensive skills, so you’ll need to play them all to get a feel for their capabilities. I prefer the Gunner though the more well-rounded Assault character can be deadly as well.
And then, it’s combat! The smooth, quick, and responsive controls enable you to scoot around the rather complex arenas, build your turrets, activate things like jump pads or ejectors, and start shooting the blazes out of the enemy. Enemy bots come in a number of different styles with different attack techniques, including ones that cloak to invisible until they stand beside you draining your health, and gigantic Jackbots that are so intent on destroying your moneyball they deem your character irrelevant.
When you shoot an enemy, they conveniently drop gold coins. Make sure you pick up as much money as possible because you’ll need it to take full advantage of the arena (jump pads, weapons, etc.) and your skills (improved damage, improved defense, etc.). You can even shoot the mascot for additional coins.
Blitz mode features single-player play, or co-op as you and your friends attempt to protect your moneyball from the bot army. But it’s Crossfire mode over Xbox LIVE that is sure to be a cauldron of activity as this is multiplayer madness of the best kind, team-based head-to-head battle. Take care of your own army of bots and cross into enemy territory to lay waste to the enemy. Have your bots remove the shields from the moneyball, then try to destroy that ball before your opponent does the same to your own base.
If you love multiplayer arena battles, you need to download the Monday Night Combat game on Xbox 360 and give it a try. It just may become your sport of choice!
