Before we get started with today’s tip, just a little house-cleaning: I am a couple of posts behind on the blog and will be catching up this week with an additional post on Thursday. Also, I have decided to stop producing videos for the time being. I am re-evaluating if the videos make sense or if the time is better spent on more blog posts. When you create a new Silverlight Project in Visual Studio 2010 with Service Pack 1 you now have support for Silverlight 4 included. Specifically, this “[…] adds support for targeting Silverlight 4 in the Silverlight designer and project system. This also provides support for the new Silverlight 4 technology improvements. This new technology includes working with implicit styles and Silverlight 4 Out-of-Browser (OOB) applications. You can automatically start and debug your OOB application from inside the IDE, specify XAP signing for trusted OOB applications, and set the OOB window characteristics.”

When you go to create a new Silverlight Project you may see the following dialog if you don’t have the latest developer runtime version installed:
Silverlight 4 is now the default version when you create new projects. You can choose a different version when you create most Silverlight projects:
In the case of Silverlight Business Application and WCF RIA Services Class Library projects you will have to go to the project properties on the Silverlight tab to change your version:
