Today we released some new CTP features to make importing and exporting data between SQL Azure and SQL Server databases much easier. Through updates to the DAC framework that will be shipping in the next version of SQL Server (code-named “Denali”), migrating and moving data back and forth between SQL Server and SQL Azure requires fewer steps and packages everything into a new export file.

Bundled inside the export file is not only database data, but also schema – such as logins, users, tables, columns, indexes, and stored procedures. Archiving and restoring all of these things now just requires two statements from a command prompt. We’ll be adding even more capabilities to this over the next few months, so stay tuned.
