(A personal post)

It has been almost a year since I moved to Amman. And as such, I started having strong opinions about places and activities here. Here's my list of "Best in Amman". This post will evolve as I find better alternatives - so please feel free to add suggestions in the comments box below.

Category My choice
ONLINE
Weather
Cinema Schedule http://play.jo/cinema - Surprisingly this Play FM radio website has the best movie guide in Amman. better that Maktoob, Jeeran, or any other portal of local Mall site I was able to view
Photo Printing http://snap2shop.com/ Amazing site! get prints from your digital photos with few clicks, delivered to your house!
News http://alghad.jo but frankly I do not check it all the time
Reviews
  • http://Amman.Jeeran.com eventhough a new site, they have a very promising reviews collection out there so far. I just wish they would add the other things (like movie theater schedule :-))
  • http://www.thinkspots.com/ a GREAT site, but doesn't have many social features. I find everything I need about restaurants (description, menus, directions, etc.)
Prayer Times http://Bing.com again, just search for "muslim prayer times amman"
Sell/Buy NONE! I'm still looking for something like amman.Craigslist.com - can't find. there are so many small sites, but none have enough following
Delivery Food http://tasree3.com very good resource
FOOD
Sushi Noodasia, as good as sushi gets (even compared to the best i've had in the US) nothing in Amman even comes close
Chinese Chen's Chinese Restaurant, on Almadinah Al-Munawarah street (across from Al-Muheet). This place, the smells, the taste, and even the great Jasmine tea - it all reminds me of authentic chinese food I had at China Town in Seattle & San Francisco. great and moderately priced.
Shawerma Shawermama (both chicken & meat)
View Teatro - has a nice view of Amman around Safeway, (but still looking for better options)
Foul & Hummus Hashem - first choice to the Balad original shop, but the Jaber branch is also very good. I tried Sunbul of AlWehdat (that shop that opens from 5am-7am only), and i do not think it's as good.
Mashawi Kababji - I know, a susprise, but I have to say that this lebanese chain tops the best of original Amman shops like Mawwal, Amman Al-Kubra, and others. Kababji are very professional, tasty, and consistent. Amazingly consistent, even at the height of the Eid busy times
Burger still looking
Pizzaa Italian Wood Pizza in Bayader, truly good pizza, very similar to NY Pizza style. (just make sure to avoid hotdog as topping, can't understand why Ammanis like it)
Steak still looking (so far the stuff I make at home tops any restaurant i've tried)
Juice still looking, but Khalil ramadan in Balad has the best Kharroub :-)
Coffeeshop Mawardi in Rabieh and Beit Shqair in Rainbow, but still looking for others
Tea Shop Tea turtle in Rainbow is ok(eventhough they do not have Brown Rice Green tea, my favorite!)
SHOPS
Cinema / Me Theaterovi Zara so far (but still looking)
Clothes Shop still looking
Farmers' market can't find one yet. some suggested Souq Jara on Rainbow, but it's only fridays. and as I understand it's more touristy than traditional
Shopping Carfour is great EXCEPT for Fruits & Veggies, which are terrible there
Fruits & Veggies Hisbeh in Bayader or Hussein refugee camp. But I wish I can find a closer place
Cake none (Rawan Cake is OK, but I'm still looking for truely delicious place)
Icecream None (nothing comes close to California's Cold Stone)
Organic Shopping Miles in mecca mall is actually very nice
