I vote 1 root /asp.net/ folder. If you can't configure it (yet), I'm OK with that but, The "app_" naming convention with 7 folders in the root of each application is weak.

"The single root approach was rejected because it did not enable us to support directories located in arbitrary locations in the application tree, such as the localresources directory. "

You guys can figure something out. What about "/asp.net/themes" or even "/asp.net/app_themes" it's not arbitrary. I don't care but please put it in 1 root folder. Having all those folders on the root is going to be a real pain.

Brian -- The directories will only be there if they are required by your specific application -- I'd expect on avg. 3. We did seriously consider the single root option, but there are technical reasons that forced us to make trade-off decisions. We concluded this change was the most appropriate response considering the scope of work we are trying to get done on the product.
