Management Tip: Motivating your Employees

How do you motivate people, especially if they work for you? I ran across this list regarding how to reward good work somewhere and have found it to be pretty acurate, although at Microsft, I think that "favorite work" one is probably higher on the list.

  1. Monetary compensation
  2. Recognition
  3. Time off
  4. A piece of the action
  5. Favorite work
  6. Advancement
  7. Freedom
  8. Personal Growth
  9. Fun
  10. Prizes

Related to this are the basic human needs, which to me, is simply a less detailed version of the above list.

  1. Security
  2. Variety
  3. Significance
  4. Change
  5. Growth
  6. Contribution

Hey Ski Alta: You may not be motivated at your job, but at least you get the best snow that I've ever skied on!
