An updated TFS MSSCCI provider is available

Yesterday we posted the latest update of the TFS MSSCCI provider.  In addition to the support for VS6 in the last pre-release, this new version also works with VS2003, VS2002 and FoxPro.  It is likely it will also work with other MSSCCI enabled environments (like the SQLServer tools, PowerBuilder, etc.) but no testing has been done on other environments yet.  If you try it out, please let us know of any bugs you find or any successes you have.  This new MSSCCI provider is ONLY compatible with the TFS Release Candidate.

You can download the new provider at:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=58454

In addition to the new environment support, we've beefed up the checkin dialog so you can use the whole integrated checkin experience - linking work items, running checkin policies, etc.  We've also fixed quite a few bugs and smoothed out rough edges.

It is important to remember that this MSSCCI provider is an "unsupported" add-on.  It is not shipping "with" TFS and is not an official part of the product.  We are making it available for those who get value from it.  We will continue to fix bugs and release updates on a fairly regular basis.  If you find issues, please let us know by posting on the TFS forum or filing a bug through the MSDN Product Feedback Center.  Please don't call customer support as they will not be able to help you.

Thanks,

Brian

Can't get it working :-(

When i select the new provider in VS, i get the following error:

" There was a failure while initializing the Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider source control provider. You cannot use this provider to perform source control operations."

My Environment: Windows XP Pro SP 2, VS 2005 Team Suite (RTM), TFS RC

Joachim, you cannot use this MSSCCI provider with VS2005.  We intentionally prevent it from working with VS2005 because you should use the TFS source control provider that we provide as part of Team Foundation Server.  To get it, simply install Team Explorer from the Team Foundation Server install.

The MSSCCI provider is only for environments other than VS 2005.

You are right.

I have both installed, VS 2003 and VS 2005 Team Suite (RTM), I tried it with VS 2003 and i get the error that i mentioned in the first post.

Sorry.

Joachim,
please check forum thread:

Have you disabled strong name validation? This is possible reason of failure.

Bingo, that's it. Thank you michalma, that was helpful.

I've disabled strong name verification with [sn -Vr *]. That works so far. Any idea of what the assemblies are that are causing the problem? I do not really feel good with havin sn verification disabled for all assemblies.

On the other hand, it's just a test environment, so what. ;-)

Thanks again!

The MSSCCI provider has to be installed on every machine on which you want IDE integration with any supported IDE other than VS2005 or VS2008.  If I understand your question correctly, the answer is yes.
