Moving your TFS SharePoint site

We've gotten tons of requests since we shipped TFS v1.0 from customers who want more flexibility with the configuration of the SharePoint server that TFS uses.  Some want to use a SharePoint web farm that they already have.  Others want to use a pre-existing web site.  And still others want to change the port # or not have a SharePoint site at all.

We've added all of these requirements for future versions of TFS, however TFS V1 does not support them.  In an effort to address one of the most common of these requests - using a separate or pre-existing SharePoint web server/farm, we have produced a technical article that describes how this can be done manually.

The instructions are neither simple nor short.  I really don't recommend doing it unless you are ready to pull your hair out for a day or two getting all of the configuration pieces in place.  The simplest way to think of it is that TFS V1 does not support it but future versions will.  However, some of you are brave souls, undaunted by challenging problems.  For you fearless few, this article should provide you the information you need to configure TFS and SharePoint.

Good luck :)

The link for the article seems to be broken. Could you supply a valid location of the document, please?

Thanks.

# re: Moving your TFS SharePoint site

Hi Brian,  do you have similar instructions for existing Team System projects.  I already have Team system projects and I want to point them to company sharepoint farm sites.  Is there a way to do that?

Thanks

# re: Moving your TFS SharePoint site

Do you know if you can bring an existing Corporate Sharepoint site into TFS?  Someone posted a question about this on MSDN at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2066025&SiteID=1.  I suggested they ask you, but I'm also curious, so thought I'd ask here.  Thanks.

# re: Moving your TFS SharePoint site

I have a question as I can't find a definitive answer on this: Can I move my existing Sharepoint 2.0 sites to VSTF 2005? I would appreciate a definitive answer because this will affect my planning on implementing VSTF 05 . . . .

TIA

imjayu,

I'm not particularly knowledgable about MOSS development myself.  However, we are working on a whitepaper that will give advice on how to do it.  I'm expecting that whitepaper to be available in the next month or so.  When we have it, I will blog about it.
