Configuring TFS to use Sharepoint 2007

Over the past several months we've gotten countless requests from people who want to use the new Sharepoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) with their TFS server (instead of Sharepoint 2003 (WSS 2.0)).  Our plan has been to release support for Sharepoint 2007 in the Orcas release of TFS.  However, demand has been so overwhelming that we decided to go ahead and figure out what it would take to get it working with TFS 2005.  I'd like to thank Mike Glaser for shaming us into doing this by reverse engineering many of the steps necessary to accomplish it.  I'd also like to thank the VSTS ranger team (a group of MCS consultants and VSTS team members) that did much of the leg work to flesh out the solution and test it thoroughly.

It's still not an easy process and it still involves some unusual steps (like having both WSS2.0 and WSS3.0 installed).  However, we've documented how to do it in a way that will be supported going forward and leaves the software in a state where it is still serviceable.  You can read about the details here: http://blogs.msdn.com/briankel/archive/2007/04/14/Configuring-Visual-Studio-2005-Team-Foundation-Server-with-Windows-SharePoint-Services-3.0.aspx

Please be aware that, at the moment, this is still "pre-release".  We are looking for a few brave individuals who are willing to give this a try and make sure it works for them too.  Maybe Mike will give it a spin and let us know what he thinks :)  If any of you try it out, let me or Brian Keller know how is goes so we can make sure it's working.  If you'd prefer to play it safe and not muck around with the guts of Sharepoint and TFS too much, you can pick up a Beta 2 drop of Orcas later this year and take advantage of the work we've done there to fully integrate Sharepoint 2007.

Thanks,

Brian

You mention Sharepoint 2007 support will come with Beta 2 of Orcas.  Will Beta 1 of Orcas still incorporate WSS 2.0 as its default configuration?

Is there a timeframe for when Beta 1 will be targeted for public release?

To answer my own question (as the installation documentation is only to be found after downloading the entire image at present) - Orcas Beta 1 (Team Foundation Server) still incorporates WSS 2.0 as its default configuration.

Hi ,

After following TFS WSS 3.0 migration details I stuck on step 10, where adding TFS database using command line "

stsadm –o addcontentdb –url http://mytfsat:81 –databasename CONTENT_TFS

"

It's showing error message to run pre-scan tool . To run the  pre scan tool it's getting failed and showing error message "The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database".Please help me to sort out this problem.

Thanks ,

Do the TFS 2005 configuration changes required for WSS 3 work for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 as well?

Yes, it will work for MOSS as well.
