Closure on devBiz Components

We have finalized our decision to license source code for the devBiz components (devMail, devCompress, devGroupware, devDns, devMX) to current owners.  We are just hammering out the final details on the licensing agreement but I expect to be able to start delivering source code soon.  The license is intended to allow customers to examine the source to understand/debug it and to fix bugs and redistribute the fixed binaries as necessary to continue to support applications that use the components.

You can request a copy of the source code by sending mail to support@devbiz.com.  Please specify which components you need source to.  We'll confirm your current license for those components.  You'll need to sign the new license agreement from the source and then we will deliver the source code to you.

I hope this addresses most of the remaining concerns about the future of these components.  As I've said before, we are evaluating how to incorporate these into future products from Microsoft but have nothing to announce at this time.  In the mean time you should be able to make uninhibited progress with products that rely on these components.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns,

Brian

This is not working too well at the moment...

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its

recipients after more than 24 hours on the queue on XXX.

The message identifier is:     1HhSWo-0000yN-8A

The subject of the message is: Source Code Request: devMail.NET with IMAP

The date of the message is:    Fri, 27 Apr 2007 17:38:33 +0200

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

 support@devbiz.com

   Delay reason: Connection timed out

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for

some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message

remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,

and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

# re: Closure on devBiz Components

The only problem is that the E-Mail address support@devbiz.com no longer exists. Good job!

Sorry about that.  We were making some infrastructure changes to re-route some email addresses/domain names/web sites to Microsoft infrastructure and an error was made.  We have corrected it and the address is working again.

Thanks,

Brian

I had a server crash and would like to move the devMail.NET to an other server. Only problem is that the licens key (.lic file) is bound to my machine code.

Sourch code, new .lic file the appounity to buy a new linces... anything! Just need to get my application back in the air! :-)

Henrik and Haiying,

I believe both of these have been or are in the process of being addressed in email.  If not, let me know and we'll get a conversation going right away.

# re: Closure on devBiz Components

I have also made several requests for the source code using the support@ email, but have had no response. Two in September last year and now one this year (29 Jan)

I really hope the code is still available as my company is really locked into this product and we really don't want to have to change. We have only a few issues to iron out which I'm sure we could do if we had the source code.

Please help!

It may very well be that we are no longer monitoring that alias.  Officially, we've stopped providing source to these components however, we always try to do what we can to help.  Email hakane@microsoft.com and cc me (bharry@microsoft.com) and we'll see what we can do.

# re: Closure on devBiz Components

We have several devMail licenses and as our hardware grows old and fails we are no longer able to use it (as the licenses are tied to hardware) is there anychance of getting the source code so we can continue to make use of our investment?

TIA

# re: Closure on devBiz Components

I developped and application that forwards mail for our sales force, which use POP3 accounts.  I used the devbiz.net.mail dll to forward the messages as attachments (if requested).  From what I can find, there's no way to create a message (net.mail.mailmessage) from a file (which is itself a message) using .Net.  If this is possible please let me know as I believe this is the only functionality that I now need the devmail component for.  Otherwise I will need the source code to be able to get this working again.

Thank you
