The first commercial TFS hosting service is live!

Man what a couple of weeks.  First Orcas Beta 2, then VSTS Web Access, now a hosting service and later this week the Rosario August CTP...  (and there's more to come I can't talk about yet and probably some stuff I have forgotten to mention).  This confluence of  things wasn't exactly by design but it sure is exciting.

Readify (a partner of ours in Australia) announced a new commercial hosting service called TFS Now.  This is an exciting development for VSTS.  There is a small and growing segment of customers who don't want to host their own services and would prefer someone else do it for them.  The primary advantages I hear people looking for:

  • Quick start up time and easy capacity management as needs grow
  • Reduced operational costs with backups, reliability and disaster recovery handled
  • Easy access from anywhere on the globe without needing lots of infrastructure.

To keep track of the latest developments on TFS Now, watch this blog feed.

I hope you like it.  Keep the feedback flowing.

I think this has the potential to fill a HUGE void in the market... but did you catch the price. Long term cost for early adopters is insane with this service. Where is a codeplex-like service for small development teams (read that >5 - hence no workgroup edition, but < 10) to leverage TFS for private projects. Sometimes an evangelist must feed the masses for them to heed the sermon.
