VS 2010 Beta 2 is Now Available for MSDN Subscriber Download

This includes:

  • VS 2010
  • .NET 4.0
  • TFS 2010

The VS Beta also includes the features formerly known as Team System role SKUS.  Very shortly I’ll be writing a post on the packaging changes we are making to combine and simplify the VS/VSTS products.

MSDN subscribers can download Beta 2 today (It will be available to the rest of the world on Wednesday).

The public download will go live today.  I will blog it in a bit.

Yes, the Beta 2 TFS installer contains the TFS Basic wizard.

Is it known/expected that beta 2 clients don't work reliably with beta 1 server?  We didn't see any warnings about compatibility, so we ended up testing it, and it doesn't seem to work.  Would like to know the official word on that.

No, Beta 1 and Beta 2 are incompatibile.  To be honest, I'm surprised it work at all :)  We don't even promise that Beta 2 and RTM will be compatible (but they will be upgradable).

Hi Brian,

I was wondering if you are considering using WF as a base for TFS work items. I know this will make the current workflows little complex... but very powerful. The reason why i ask is we had a customer who was a little disappointed to know there is no state machine concept in TFS workflows. They are currently using ClearQuest.

Thanks

Look at the Process Template Editor in the Power Tools.  It does expost the TFS state machine for work items.  You can customize it to your hearts content.  However, it's not long running and it's not the same thing as WF.  Yes, I expect we will integrate WF into TFS work items in the future.  It will augument the current TFS state machine model by providing inter-workitem work flows and long lived work flows.
