This is the first installment of the bizTalk pub/sub infrastructure talk. I have met lots of people

re: Is there a pub/sub system underneath BizTalk?

Could you explain what is the MessageAgent ? It lives in the nt process (btsntsvc) not on sql server and provides interfaces to the engine for interacting with the messagebox. I don't want the engine devlopers to have to know what stored procedures to call or how to make sure calls are ordered correctly to avoid excessive locking or even deadlocks. Again, though, this (the agent) is not something you really need to worry about. Just excessive information

re: Is there a pub/sub system underneath BizTalk?

ok, I understand, but I needed the information for my trainees (I give a BT training and in a slide the MessageAgent is written...).

re: Is there a pub/sub system underneath BizTalk?

Lee - posts like this are absolutely invaluable. My employer (Solidsoft) specialises in BizTalk implementations (you just had one of my colleagues out there for a week infact) and we need and want this deep level of understanding of the product. Keep it up - it's great stuff.

I'd love to know some more about routing on repeating elements as it's a pain point for me right now, eg: (hope this HTMLEncodes ok):

<Destinations>
<Destination>Person1</Destination>
<Destination>Person2</Destination>
</Destinations>

As you say, the UI won't let me promote Destination. Time to go digging in custom pipelines :-)

re: Is there a pub/sub system underneath BizTalk?

Routing is supported on repeating elements, but the engine will not do it for you. You have to do it yourself in custom code. If you promote a property with A=1, A=2, and A=3, and someone subscribes to any of those values, you will cause the message to be routed. Simply pass in an array to the promote call (VT_ARRAY | VT_???? in unmanaged). Note that you cannot reference this property from within an orchestration or you will get an exception as they don't support multi valued properties. But if you just want to route on it ... go for it.

Lee

Geek Notes 2004-08-04

Starting BizTalk Server 2004 orchestrations using the MessageAgent.

Mick's Breeze Blogs - Biztalk/Sharepoint/... - BizTalk optimising Send Port Subscriptions

PingBack from http://blogs.breezetraining.com.au/mickb/2007/02/19/BizTalkOptimisingSendPortSubscriptions.aspx
