Office can use a lot of CPU at times (which is reasonable), and it sounds like you are overheating.  You can find quite a bit of advice on overheating.  Best I've found is set the machine on a flat, hard surface (not your lap) with adequate air flow (cooling happens from the bottom, so the bottom matters).

The machine shuts down to protect itself.  You might also want to see if the air vents are clogged (I've read compressed air can help, but I've not had a need to try that).  If anyone else has ideas, I suppose I could always afford to learn more.

FWIW, I used to ahve this problem myself, and these steps took care of it for me.
