Adventures into the world of amateurgramming. I'll leave the programming to the professionals.
It might cost you to be popular.

Earlier today I grabbed some of the Apple Usage App Store data from Charles Teague.

I wanted to see if there was an correlation between popularity and the price of any application.  Popularity is a magic number calculated by Apple and it ranges from 0 to 1.

I removed all the free application, and ~10 applications that cost more then 100 dollars(they were all mostly 0 popularity) and then plotted the popularity vs. price.

Its pretty clear, for your application to pick up any acceptance on the iPhone App Store, you will need to lower the price of your application.  Or at least have a free version that you use as a vehicle to up-sell your premium version.

Only 3 non free applications made it past the 0.15 hash mark, where as 620 free application made it past this mark.

Let the apple try to reduce the cost of their iphone itself and it will be a igger hit than what it is now :) Here in India it is in a segment where only high profile can get hold of.

And Mr. Turner you have done something interesting (this was something like the growth of open source and free apps)

And it doesnt cost you a buck to be popular ...
