Over the past couple of months it seems that people are getting themselves into hot water by posting controversial blogs. I read with interest an article @ The Times (Online) today about Steve Beall a manager at Thorntons, who had been sent from Newcastle upon Tyne to manage a newly opened café and shop in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The long and short of the story is that he was "not best pleased" about working in Barrow and made some rather disparraging remarks on his personal blog that found their way to the local paper prompting somewhat of a local back-lash.

Then there was the offer made by Threshers prior to Xmas offering 40% off all wine. It's difficult to determine whether this was smart viral makreting or a huge issue in underestimating the power of the internet and blogging. I love Hugh McLeod's post about the Thresher's manager in London.

And everyone remembers Claire Swire for all the wrong reasons - enough said.

I'm now going away to write a short manifesto (10 lines) which I'll send through to Hugh on prudent blogging. The great thing about blogging and the internet in general is it allows you to publish information and express opinions freely - but I think if any blog post has the potential to adversely affect your marriage, your job, your financial security or in Steve Beall's case your health and well-being it's probably not worth posting.
