Channel 9 and 10-4

If you are not already aware of Channel 9, stop what you are doing right now and go check it out.

Really.

I'll wait. :)

Channel 9 has a long a brilliant history of shining a light on all things that Microsoft is doing through the video medium. Soon after the 2008 PDC was over, the session videos were made available on Channel 9, allowing folks who couldn't make the conference to see the details, but also giving the folks who were there the ability to catch the sessions they were unable to catch in person. ( Here's the link to my talk at the PDC. )

In addition, when the VSTS 2010 CTP became available, the Channel 9 folks launched a series of videos that introduced you to the various areas of the Team System product line ( including your's truly :) ).

Well now, they're doing it again.

Today the Channel 9 folks have announced a new video podcast series entitled "10-4". The idea is simple: every week, provide a video to the community detailing various aspects of Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0.

Visual Studio 2010 CTP available!

Folks, I'm sitting here waiting for Anders Hejlsberg to give his talk about the Future of C#, and wanted to let you know that the CTP bits for Visual Studio and Visual Studio Team System 2010 are now available.

Check out this link that Mr. Keller has just blogged about. For those of you fortunate enough to be here at the PDC, tomorrow at 1:00 you'll be getting a hard drive that includes the CTP image on it!

PDC 2008 Is Here!

It's the night before PDC, and all is quiet! But tomorrow, the LA convention center is going to burst at the seams with folks from all over the globe, descending on the 2008 PDC like locusts! :)

It occurs to me that I have not shared the fact that I will be giving the "Visual Studio Team System: A Lap Around VSTS 2010" talk tomorrow morning at 11:00 in room 153. The talk is an overview, spending 90% of the time demonstrating a few of the new features in Visual Studio Team System 2010. Guaranteed lots of fun to be had, so if you can, drop by and say hi!

Wanted to also point out the details around all the other VSTS sessions at PDC this year. The 2010 product is simply huge! If you can make it to all the talks ( impossible by yourself, as a few talks are happening in parallel, so bring a friend! ), you will be in a good spot to understand the breadth of this product.

Microsoft joins the OMG

Today we've announced the fact that Microsoft has joined the OMG. Please see the press release here.

We're very excited about making this step. We are very interested in participating in future efforts that further the effectiveness of the UML as a collaboration and communication vehicle used throughout an organization. Our own Steve Cook will be participating in next weeks OMG meeting in Orlando.

This move is one of many in Microsoft's push to make modeling and model-driven technologies more prevalent to a broader range of people. In this particular case, the need for our tooling to interop in a much more direct way via the industry standard that is UML will be a great boon for our current and future customer base.

We've already released an early CTP that shows the start of this effort, and if you attend next month's PDC, you'll see a whole lot more! I will be giving a talk entitled:

"Rosario": A Sprint with the Next Version of Microsoft Visual Studio Team System

where I will be showing many of the great things we will be delivering Team System all-up, including the latest bits around our UML and visualization designers.
