Windows Live Mail Desktop Announced!

Just in case you missed it, check out the announcement about the new mail client being developed for Windows Live, dubbed Windows Live Mail Desktop.

WLMD is the next generation mail (and more) client from Microsoft.  Sort of the successor to Outlook Express, but brought into the new millenium and integrated nicely with some of MSN's most popular services such as Messenger and Hotmail.  I don't want to steal too much of the thunder of the announcement, nor say anything that's not being publicly disclosed yet, so I'll leave it at that for now.  Monitor their MSN Space for the upcoming public beta!!

I had the great fortune to work on WLMD for most of last year, including the inception, spec, and design of the RSS reader feature, which I handed off during the implementation phase to Oji when I joined the Office Live team.  The reader will have great integration with IE7's new system feed list, allowing you to add a feed in IE7 with just a click, and have those feeds appear automatically in your WLMD reader.  Oh, did I mention you should try the IE7 Beta 2 Preview?

Anyway, just another sign that there is a lot of exciting things going on at MSFT these days.
