About Dick Hardt (Founder & CEO, Sxip Identity)
A pioneer in the internet sector and open source community, Dick Hardt has been active in software development for over two decades. The CEO and founder of Sxip Identity, he is the leading expert in Identity 2.0, an internet-scale approach to identity and access management.
A champion of the user-participation ethos of the web, Dick is a strong advocate for user privacy. He has worked for the past five years on a means for a simple, secure and open identity architecture that enables individuals to create and manage their online digital identities. He is presently a board member of the OpenID Foundation; a co-author of the OpenID 2.0 specification; and has been chosen by the Government of British Columbia to lead a multi-vendor, multi-agency project to define a new identity architecture for the Province.
A serial entrepreneur, Dick previously built two successful Vancouver-based technology companies, hip communications in the early 1990s and ActiveState in the late 1990s, which he sold to Sophos, a UK-based, security, software company in 2003.
His current work at Sxip addresses the lack of an intrinsic identity mechanism for the internet –- a standard, interoperable, identity system for users to unambiguously identify who they are.
