Windows CE Server components released for Windows Mobile!

There are a few popular (and extremely cool!) server components from Windows CE 5.0 that you can download and install on Windows Mobile 5.0: the Web Server, UPnP Device, UPnP Control Point, MSMQ and the PNRP service.

Since a large number of CE OS components are not shipped in Windows Mobile due to RAM and ROM constraints, I know several people have worked to get the web server running on Windows Mobile (PocketPC and Smartphone) devices in the past. You'll be happy to know that these are the same OS features you know and love just on the Windows Mobile devices. Problems using the Windows CE 4.2 File Server and XP SP2

Thanks to Zineb Maddi from Matrox Imaging for pointing out this problem and fix!

Problem:

When accessing a Windows CE 4.2 File Server share from Windows XP SP2 (with all patches as of 5/20/2005) you see explorer 'hang' for roughly 3-5 minutes before displaying the file share's contents. Copying files to or from the share fails.

Cause:

This problem was caused by an overly protective patch to a security problem. See information about KB885250 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885250/.

Fix:

You can either uninstall the KB885250 hotfix or alternatively, Zineb reported that he got another fix KB895900 (details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895900/) which fixed the issue for him.
