Old Home Week: Anders and ChuckJ

I was walking down the hall today, and looked casually in Ander's office without really thinking about it. I went on a few steps, then suddenly had to backtrack. There was Anders Hejlsberg and Chuck Jazdzewski chatting together in one office! Ten years ago, when I was back at Borland, that would have been a very common sight. And there was a time -- quite a long time, actually -- when I thought I would never see that particular sight again. But there they were, heads together, looking very much at home with one another.

Of course, these days I'm sure they are no longer talking about Delphi. More likely they were discussing plans for Cider, or for some intricacy involving life in the .NET world. At any rate, it was great to see them together.

Isn't it a shame though. They accomplished SOOOO MUCH more while they were working on Delphi.

.NET, as nice as it is has still some way to go to catch up to what Delphi (IDE, VCL, RTL, speed, native compilation) is. It's getting close, and in some areas it has already surpassed it, but it would be fantastic if the managed-world shackles were broke open and all you ex-Borlanders true potential were realised.

I wonder if the deal clincher in both cases was money or the excitement of working on new projects?

wpSlider, I think you need to understand .NET before making such claims. Native compilation? Speed? Taken a look at VS2005 lately?
