A new version of Windows XP before Longhorn?

A new article on News.com has spoken of the possibility of an interim update to Windows XP before Longhorn. The interim version is referred to as 'Windows XP Reloaded'... let's just hope that it isn't as bad as a recent movie featuring a similar title. This speculation is probably in response to the fact that the release date for Longhorn has slipped from it's original date of 'sometime in 2005' and the release gap between the XP and Longhorn is allowing other operating systems a larger window of opportunity for innovation.

An interesting thought: I wonder how much of the burden of innovation should be on the platform, and how much should be on the applications that use that platform?
