News from Microsoft Ireland's Developer & Platform Group

Dublin Architect Forum - March 1st

Bill's Architect Forum is running this year on March 1st. If you have an interest in Software Factories - you should definitely check it out...

For those of you more interested in databases than software architecture, you should make sure to check out the TechNet SQL Event on the same day!

And for those of you interested in both - you might pop along to the Architect Forum for the day and meet all the SQL product team at the first meeting of SQL Ireland - a new user group focusing on all things SQLy... Well, actually... not all things SQLy - I should note that this group is primarily aimed at Database Administrators, and won't be covering those developer-related SQL topics that are usually covered by our developer user groups like IrishDev, INDA and NIMTUG.

More details on all three events below.

Architect Forum 2006 - Software Factories
The Microsoft Architect Forum, is the premier Microsoft Ireland event for practising IT Architects. Attended by 75 of Ireland's leading architects in 2004 and 2005, this event is an excellent way to explore an area of architectural interest amongst your peers.

This year we will explore Software Factories – an effort underway at Microsoft to evolve beyond the universal one-size-fits-all approach to constructing, deploying and managing software. A Software Factory is a development environment configured to support the rapid production of a specific type of application via a custom collection of domain-specific languages organized by a graph of viewpoints. By introducing patterns of industrialisation, Software Factories promise to drive the evolution of software development methods and change the character of the software industry.

SQL Ireland User Group Meeting
Directly after the above event SQL Ireland will be having their first user group meeting. The SQL product group from Microsoft’s HQ will present but most of the time will be left for Q&A and open discussion. Also, seeing as it is the first SQL Ireland user group meeting the first part of the meeting will be left to member introductions and there will also be some logistical items to discuss, like: How often to meet? Agreeing future topics of discussion, Venue?

The user group leads are currently getting their new website live but in the meantime if you are interested in attending this or finding out more information please email Rhys Kerrigan at:
rhys.kerrigan@teamdba.ie.
