Microsoft Ireland is hiring developers!

Many of you will have already heard about the new Microsoft R&D centre opening up here in Sandyford, Dublin. The centre, called the Microsoft European Development Centre (or EDC) will have about 100 new developers.

Declan, a colleague of mine from HR, just sent through some job descriptions for the EDC and the local MSN development team in case any of you out there might know of people who would be interested... if you do, please pass on this info, if you are thinking of applying - good luck!

Department: Windows Live Member Experience, Ireland

Job Title: Software Design Web Engineer (DHTML, AJAX)

Location: European Development Centre, Dublin Ireland

Reports to: Lead Developer

Salary: Negotiable

 

Summary of Project/Product/Division:

The WLN team is starting a new team to improve the way customers discover and acquire Windows Live services (http://ideas.live.com/). Our project will compete head-to-head with Google and offer a unique opportunity to develop Win32 client applications, .NET web services to support them, and eventually Vista-focused client applications.  We’re a part of the Windows Live Member Experience team, which provides experiences across Windows Live for merchandising, installation, signup, sign in, and account management and owns the Windows Live Favorites service.

Responsibilities:

-DHTML/AJAX web development

-.NET Web Sites/Services development

-Develop web-based localization capabilities

-Write Windows Installer deployment code

-Instrument web sites and services to measure customer experience

-Work with internal partners to define installation platform interfaces and requirements

-Provide technical guidance to help partners with on-boarding

-Analyze instrumentation data to understand and resolve customer-impacting issues

-Cooperate with internal teams and projects to improve underlying Microsoft software platforms

 

Minimum Requirements:

-Passion for good customer experiences, and for technology.

-Strong object-oriented design skills and coding experience in C/C++ or C#

-3 years DHTML, JS experience

-3 years .NET Web Sites/Services development experience

-Experience with web-based content localization, globalization (ideally 1 ship cycle)

-B.S. in CS or equivalent

-Ability to work independently while tackling large ambiguous challenges

-Fluent English

 

Desired Requirements:

-Experience with AJAX and ATLAS preferred

-WIX, and Agile Development are plusses

Department: Windows Live Member Experience

Job Title: Test Manager

Location: Dublin, Ireland

 

Summary of Project/Product/Division:

 

The EDC Member Experience Team is responsible for a set of building-block services that enable the more visible Windows Live Services (e.g. Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, etc.). These services include services merchandising, installation, signup, sign in, billing, payouts, and account management. We are also responsible for the Windows Live Favorites Service.

 

We are building a new service called Windows Live Now, from the ground up, to deliver a seamless and frictionless installation and software management experience for the full suite of Windows Live Services. We are looking for a test manager with a deep passion for delivering value to customers via online services. The successful candidate will be responsible for building a team and defining processes and tools to deliver version 1.0 of a centralized consumer-focused software lifecycle management solution. Responsibilities will include architecture leadership, technology selection, recruiting, managing, test development, and test process definition. Your solutions will be leveraged by millions of customers and your impact will be felt company wide.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Recruit and lead a strong team of software development engineers in test (SDETs) to own the end to end quality assurance of Windows Live Now.

·         Define the processes, documentation, tools, and software test development methodologies required to validate Windows Live Now.

·         Work extensively with other teams across Microsoft on engineering issues, processes, tools, and standards.

·         Be responsible for providing technical test guidance to other teams at Microsoft’s European Development Centre.

·         Provide leadership on several other business challenges such as recruiting top candidates, re-recruiting your top performers, growing your personnel into technical and future leadership roles, owning organization-wide initiatives to increase organizational efficiency.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·         Passion for technology, customers, and managing and growing people.

·         Strong understanding of concepts regarding operating systems, data structures, and software and services lifecycle management.

·         3+ years experience managing a group of software engineers in designing and implementing software including agile development methodologies.

·         Proven track record of strong mentoring and management for personnel development.

·         3+ years experience in design, implementation and debugging skills using C or C++.

·         Dedication and willingness to learn new technologies and adopting new methodologies for the improvement of our products and organizational efficacy.

·         Experience in defining testability requirements and designing/implementing large software systems - particularly test automation frameworks.

·         Proven track record of hiring and retaining a strong technical team.

·         Ability and desire to collaborate with cross discipline and internationally distributed teams.

·         Experience in shipping at least one large software product through the entire product lifecycle.

·         Fluent English

 

Additional Requirements:

·         BS in CS or equivalent, MS desired.

Job Title: Software Development Engineering in Test/Lead

Job Category: Software Testing

Summary of Project/Product/Division:

Do you want to work on the leading edge technologies in a startup environment? Do you like to take software to its limits? Are you a problem solver? This is your chance to make a difference by being part of an exciting new team in Windows Live for Mobile Services as part of the European Development Center located in Dublin, Ireland.  Primary responsibilities include building and managing the team working on a large scale initiative to enable seamless WAP deployments of Windows Live services across markets. You will contribute to building an automation effort for browse services centered on functional, stress, and performance testing as well as do end-to-end test passes.

A successful candidate will be working closely with the Windows Live Mobile Services team in Redmond to build a rich platform that will enable new classes of applications on consumer mobile devices across Europe and around the globe. This platform will be consumed by Windows Live Mobile application teams as well as other Windows Live partners to easily and quickly enable new MSN & Windows Live mobile browse (HTTP) applications and scenarios.

Responsibilities:

-         Building strong working relationships with Dev/PM counterparts

-         Improving efficiency of the team through automation improvements, process improvements, and adopting new test methodologies

-         Driving vendor testers to test your own features or areas.

-         Driving the quality of features through solid testing methods

-         Becoming an expert in your specific feature ownership area

-         Designing, implementing, debugging, and maintaining automation

 

Minimum Requirements:

-         At least 4 years of testing and software development experience

-         Proven ability to manage multiple tasks & vendors. Previous experience with vendor management is a plus

-         Proven ability to work independently

-         Excellent coordination, cooperation, organizational and interpersonal skills.  Demonstrated strength at cross team collaboration

-         Proactive working and appropriate ownership attitude;

-         Good fundamental programming knowledge; good knowledge of miscellaneous test methodologies, techniques, engineering excellence and harnesses

-         Good communication skills and fluent in both writing and speaking English

-         Willing to learn and grow strong test methodology

-         Exceptional team building abilities

-         Fluent English

 

Additional Requirements:

-         Must be capable of working independently and cooperatively, and innovating in a highly dynamic environment

-         Demonstrable experience with SQL, C++/C#, XML, ASP.NET and .NET Frameworks; the ideal candidate will have solid understanding of HTTP protocols and experience with mobile technologies such as WAP, SMS, and mobile devices

-         A BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical equivalent is required, and MS/MBA degree is preferred

Some folks have sent in questions regarding whether or not the EDC will be taking on contractors - but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you are looking at it), there are only full time permanent positions available.
