A little off-topic for developer news in Ireland - however considering I know so many of you are into photography too, I thought you might be interested in hearing about Photosynth, a new prototype app from the folks at Microsoft Live Labs in conjunction with the University of Washington. I thought it was pretty amazing when I saw it at the internal Microsoft conference in Orlando in July - but I just saw it was also featured at SIGGRAPH last week.

The application lets people combine their photos with thousands of others collected on the Internet to present a detailed 3-D model which gives you the sensation of smoothly gliding around the scene from every angle.
