Microsoft at a Java Conference?!

'What is the world coming to?' I hear you ask... Well, we are delighted to be included among the sponsors of the first ever Irish Java Technology Conference. These days, so many of the companies we work with have heterogeneous development environments - it's not longer Java or .NET but very often Java + .NET - so I'm sure we'll run into quite a few of our customers there (the ones that aren't at TechEd anyhow! ;)

The event is running from Wed 7th of November to Friday 9th of November and costs 189 euros. It is being held in the same venue as the excellent IMTC easlier this year - the Cineworld Cinema Complex on Parnell Street. I think the big screens were a big hit.

Two Microsoft Ireland speakers have had sessions accepted for the event - Ronan Geraghty will be covering Application Lifecycle Management in a Java/.NET Environment and Bob Duffy will be spekaing on Optimising Microsoft SQL Server on the Java Platform. They should be excellent sessions! More details below.

We also have a stand at the event - so if you are heading along, please do drop by and say hello!

Application lifecycle management in a Java/.NET environment
Delivering quality software on-time is hugely difficult - only 30% of software projects over the last 10 years have been classed as "Successful". Larger team sizes and a heterogeneous environment can lower productivity, increasing the overhead of management, co-ordination and communication between organisational/technical "silos". For developers this frequently translates to too much time spent on process rather than coding. In this session we will examine a low-overhead approach which enables development teams to collaborate effectively (irrespective of technology), while measurably improving quality, clarity and efficiency.

Optimising Microsoft SQL Server on the Java Platform
This session will contain tips on how to tune and optimise interaction with SQL Server. Topics include: Profiling tools, Measuring Performance, Optimising JDBC calls, bulk options, common pitfalls and sql server programmability features to improve performance and reduce development time.
