Subsequently, our MSBee shared source release is also on track and will be available soon. Earlier today, I was reading a blog post by Josh Ledgard, a co-worker

re: MSBee 1.0 Is Coming Soon

You say that your forum is available for comments but please take into consideration the fact that the forum software is horrible and there is no newsgroup. Why doesn't Microsoft provide a single point of communication ie. where one could:
A) file bugs and suggestions,
B) ask support questions and sales information and receive community assistance from MVPs and MS employees,
C) give general product documentation and MS + MSN + Windows Live web site feedback, and
D) give overall comments (feedback) on stradegy, policy, etc,
for all Microsoft products?
Why is it so hard to implement such a system which would also be easily discoverable, would work with both the web and the usenet newsgroups and which would at least be better ie. have A) a better interface and B) more features, both from the Web Discussions (the web front-end to the MS Newsgroups) site and the MS Forums (forums.microsoft.com) site.

Interesting Finds

re: MSBee 1.0 Is Coming Soon

First off, I'd like to hear why you think the forum software is horrible so I can share the feedback with our forums teams. Speaking for myself, I enjoy using the forums far more than newsgroups since I find them easier to search and they have a far lower barrier to entry than newsgroups.

As to your desire for a single point of communication, I'll respond by referencing a 2005 prediction from Josh Ledgard. He expected that "Microsoft will not open source a major project, but you’ll see a steady diet of smaller projects with real customer/Microsoft collaboration released from 'early adopter' teams." After reviewing his predictions in a recent blog post, his response to this one was: "Give me a couple more weeks".

re: MSBee 1.0 Is Coming Soon

Will MSBEE 1.0 support .NET v1.0 builds as well?

re: MSBee 1.0 Is Coming Soon

Can you comment on how MSBEE will work for v1.1 web projects since VS 2005 substantially changed the way we work with web pojects?

re: MSBee 1.0 Is Coming Soon

MSBee 1.0 will not support .NET 1.0 builds although that could potentially be added once MSBee is released as shared source (coming extremely soon, I promise - we're getting the final approval of our license).

For 1.1 web projects, you would migrate the project to VS 2005 after installing the Visual Studio 2005 Web Application Projects project model, which is available at http://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/reference/infrastructure/wap/. We recently confirmed that MSBee works with basic web projects using this model.
