Top 5 Myths and Facts about CodePlex

Myth #1:  Software hosted on CodePlex is only for developers
Fact: CodePlex is for any open source software application. Some of our top projects include Rawr, a .NET tool for World of Warcraft players, and the Vista Battery Saver, an app for managing your laptop battery life. 

Myth #2:  You have to purchase Microsoft software to use CodePlex
Fact: Visual Studio Team Explorer is free for use with CodePlex. Other clients include TeamPrise, TortoiseSVN, and the CodePlex Client.

Myth #3:  CodePlex is only for Microsoft projects
Fact: There are over 350 Microsoft projects on CodePlex.  The other 5,000 projects are owned by members of the community.

Myth #4:  CodePlex projects must run on Windows
Fact: CodePlex welcomes all technologies.

Myth #5:  CodePlex is run by Microsoft
Fact: This one is true! =D

More facts: You may even use CodePlex on Linux or other OS. Teamprise Explorer (or Teamprise for Eclipse) can help, but remember to acquire your free license from Teamprise for your CodePlex project.

Myth 3:

More facts: I hosted two of my open source projects on CodePlex. I built them for the community, not for Microsoft directly.

Anyway, in my country it is hard to host projects on SF.net because of the bandwidth issues. Thus, CodePlex or Google Code is a better choice.

Myth #3 – When your site first opened I thought it was just for Microsoft

Myth #4 – Yes, all Platforms for sure. I just made an update on my web code specifically for Opera and then posted it. Plus the code I've posted works on Mac, Linux/Unix, Sun, etc. Great site for posting code. Thanks.

Myth #5 – That’s how I heard about your site.
