The warranty voiding folks over at Make helped create a c# example for their Make Controller.  What is the Make Controller?  Well, the Make Controller is an application board has application specific hardware (motor control, networking (Ethernet / USB / CAN / Serial / SPI), and circuit protection developed by MakingThings.  What you can do is almost limitless, plus you don't have to worry about blowing up your current toys.
