With much antiicpation I installed teh new V3C today.  I did so on a complete new build of Vista and Office 2007.  Sadly the installation package is insisting that I install .NET and SP1 but even if I wante dto I can't because Vista has it installed a part of the operating system and so won't allow manual installations of eitehr component.  So, the installation won't get beyond teh point where it inssts on installing .NET, even though it is already there.  Is this an oversight or me being particualrly dim?

You can now efficiently access contacts, tasks and more in Microsoft CRM natively with Outlook 2007.

Regarding your .NET troubles, Vista ships with .NET 2.0, but Microsoft CRM 3.0 is built using .NET 1.1 SP1, which is not included in the box with Vista.

Under most conditions, our setup will allow you to install it by simply clicking a button, but if there's a language mis-match of some sort or another, it will ask you to install it manually to be sure.

If you go through the client CD image, you should find a directory where the installation packages for .NET 1.1 and it's Service Pack 1 are located. Install them manually and give things another shot--you shouldn't have any more problems.

Does this release fix the problem with the original date of e-mails not beeing tracked in CRM?

When you track a mail message in your Outlook inbox, the actual sent date from the mail header is not stored in CRM. The date that is stored is the date when the e-mail was actually tracked in CRM, which may be different from the sent date.

I have read the newsgroup and many people are having problems with this issue. For Example:

If a customer ever has a question about when something happened, the date of the CRM entry is the best tool for determining a sequence of events. Dates are often used to confirm when conversations occurred, emails were sent and

received, etc. This information could also be used as evidence in a court of law should a dispute arise. Without having the original dates of conversations, emails, etc., you would be unable to track or prove due diligence.

historical emails being uploaded to CRM with the current system date means that an accurate chronological order of emails will not be accurate in CRM.

This is surely a legal requirement of any organisation anywhere in the world.

Can anyone inform me whether this issue has been fixed with this release and (if not) whether there are any plans of changing this "track" behaviour??

Symptoms

The install for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 client is failing with the following error. "Action Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Client.InstallPstAction failed. WritePrivateProfileSection failed."

Cause

=============================

The reason the install is failing is the installing user doesn't have write access to the C:\Windows\System32 directory or the installing user doesn't have write access to the mapisvc.inf file located in the System32 directory.

Resolution

=============================

Check to see if the mapisvc.inf file exists and the security permissions on the file.

1. In Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Windows\System32

2. Find the mapisvc.inf file if it exists. If it does exists right click the mapisvc.inf file and choose properties.

3. Click the Security tab and make sure SYSTEM and Administrators have Full Control

4. If the mapisvc.inf file doesn't exist then right click on the System32 directory and choose properties.

5. Click the Security tab and make sure SYSTEM and Administrators have Full Control

6. Then try to install the Microsoft CRM Client again.

Tried what Michael suggested and manually installed .NET 1.1 as well as 1.1SP1, and kept .NET 3.0 as was on the original installation.  The installation then went through smoothly.  Many thanks for the feedback.

The V3C release is great, but when are you going to release the update for the SPLA CRM 3.0 Hosted Version?

Another general question for you as well. Does the same team at Microsoft support the Hosted Version of CRM? And is there another blog or resource on the web that I can watch for updates on the Hosted version of CRM? (I'm excieted for Titan when it will all be one code base!!! And how do I become part of the Microsoft Technology Adoption Program (TAP) program so I can get the early bits for Titan?

i had the same problem. I assume you are installing crm on vista? Because you need administrator rights and so the setup is running as this user and not as the user outlook ist installed, it can't find a configured Outlook. So as a workaround I published the Installation by the gpo to install it as a normal unprivileged user.

By the way. Does anybody know something about the CRM Gadget?

Our users do not have admin rights. It is not required to run CRM in Outlook on a terminal server. However, you must install the CRM klient as an Administrator in install mode. Are you a local administrator on the machine? Installing the client interactively (e.g. double-clicking on setup.exe), requires that you be an administrator on your machine.

You need to take ownership of the mapisvc.inf file by going start > command prompt run as admin and typing:

takeown /f c:\windows\system32\mapisvc.inf (enter)

You can then go into windows explore and change the security permissions on the mapisvc.inf file so that SYSTEM has the correct rights.

Installation runns without a hitch and the CRM clinet works fine.

Does CRm Client 3.0c contain the update from knowledge base article 927854?  If not how can I get it.
