Social Bookmarking How-To

  1. Head to http://www.technetbookmarks.com and sign in with your Live ID

  2. You can use your existing Hotmail or Live account.

  3. Choose a display name that will be shown on the site next to all of your bookmarks and forum posts. You can also choose an avatar and tell visitors to your profile more about yourself.

    Click Accept and Save, and you'll be logged in.

  4. You can immediately start filtering bookmarks using the list of tags, and saving other people's bookmarks to your profile using the "Save" links.

  5. But to add pages you find from anywhere on the internet, you'll need the bookmarklet in your browser. Click on the "Tools" link to get started.

  6. The tools page will list directions for your browser, but for Internet Explorer, right-click the "Bookmark on Microsoft TechNet" link and choose "Add to Favorites...

  7. Say Yes to the security alert.

  8. In the Create In drop down, select "Links" (IE 7) or "Favorites Bar" (IE8) so that the bookmarklet appears in the toolbar at the top of the browser.

  9. If your Links/Favorite bar isn't showing, right-click an empty area by your tabs, and select "Links" (IE 7) or "Favorites Bar" (IE8). The toolbar should appear with your new bookmarklet.

  10. Now, whenever you want to bookmark a page, click the new "Bookmark on Microsoft TechNet" link in your toolbar.

  11. Fill out the form with a couple of tags (2-3 is best), and press Enter. Voila! You're a bookmarker!
