What do you like about Connect, and what do you want to see added?

The Connect team is interested in hearing from you exactly what you like about Connect and what you would like to see it do. I'm looking for short, focused points that I can bring to the attention of the team, so here's what I'm hoping any user of Connect with a few minutes can give us.

  • A list of your top 3 favorite Connect features. What does Connect do that you really like (even if it doesn't do it perfectly, if it's a feature you like, let us know)?
  • Your top 3 "wish" items for Connect. What do you want to see added, feature-wise, to Connect? What would make your interaction with the system easier/more productive?

It would be most helpful if you could put these into short, one or two-sentence descriptions. Think bullet points- after that, feel free to add more background and describe in detail your likes and wishlist.

Feel free to leave a comment here, or send me an email at csnow@microsoft.com. Thanks a bunch!

The notification e-mails for changes in bug reports to actually include the changes in the bug report, or to include the full bug report

The my bugs page show my latest, still active bugs instead of the first bugs filed.

Top 3 likes:
- downloads work well
- ability to see other available programs
- link to program home page on top

Top 3 wishlist
- next/prev links to go through bug search results
- indication of last update for each bug in search results
- Stop "experiencing unexpected problems". It happens ALL the time.

# What I want in Connect

I would like a clearer layout of the actual connect page for this Beta. The side menus are great, but so much information is hidden below the Bug Prize winners. Perhaps more and clearer Tabs. Also the discription of some Beta's is confusing.

I would like Bug Reports to have Active Bugs come up listed in say Green and if a comment is listed or made to it, the Bug actually have some kind of notification that you can actually see. Perhaps RED if Dead.

I'd like the old surverys removed and come up marked in some different colour again as completed. Yes I know I can look, but there are a lot.

Perhaps remove more old downloads that are not appicable and actually highligh current BUILDS.

Thanks for Listening

Favorite
-Much better layout than beta place.
-Bug reports look more liked MSDN Feedback center
-ability to apend, validate and comment on bug reprots that are not your own.

Needs Work
-Stop "experiencing unexpected problems". It happens ALL the time- (I'm gonna have to second that.)
-Ability to sort bugs by date, title, ect.
-If there are senearios there should be just a validate not validate. I mean Like from the screen where the senarios are have a successful unsucessful link. where teh unsucessful takes you to a bug reprort search page to see if it has been reported, then if it has not take me to a new bug report.

Top likes
* good place for all beta programs
* nice way to add infos about a bug (votes, comments...)

Wishes:
* add a way to hide a bug (so I can see just the one I need)(>200 bugs are long to check)
* add a way to set a bug as "to check in later builds"
* better notification emails (with details)
* descend sorting of bugs

I like :
Centralized beta apply

Ability to see other tester's bugs

I dislike (so i wish them correct):
The ghost mail about bugs update
The bug search show very frequently an error
The inability do download an attched file from bug

top3:
- downloads and serial numbers are easy accesable (automatic generation of serial numbers is really nice)
- list of beta programs which we can join
- feedback watchlist

wishes:
- better filtering options for feedbacks (eg. filter for author, date, number of views, rating)
- show invites on connect (eg the invites for the wlm8 beta) -> i mean the invites you can send out to your friends which are at the moment shown on ideas.live.com

that's it so far, if anything comes to my mind i'll return and post it. =)

Favorite features:
- Ability to view/vote/comment on feedback from other people
- History of filled surveys
- Available betas list

Wishes:
- More search options such as Author and Feedback Area
- Multiple pages for search results and reports(with a configurable number of items per page)
- An entry on the left menu for the Current Program Home, as there's one for the Connect Home

Also, I don't know if this is the place to comment about File Transfer Manager, but I never get more than 260KB/s when downloading from Connect, but my connection is able to do up to 860KB/s. It would be nice if segmented download could be enabled on FTM.

Downloads available through other browsers than IE
Better Feedback Options - When bugs are filed, automatically remind the user to check out the bug when a new build is released
On the left hand side, I would also like to have the Connect Home AND the Current Beta Home there

Likes:
1. faster downloads
2. one site for all Microsoft Betas - well, maybe - Office 12 isn't using this site!
3. ?

Dislikes:
1. Feedback overview page useless - Always have to use the "More..." link
2. Feedback overview list is too long - should have single line per item with number, title, status, last changed date, Build Number, link to details; should be able to sort into number, title, status, Build Number or date last changed order; filtering by status, build number or date of change would be useful

3. notification emails - still this week getting notifications about invisible changes - should have feedback number and title in Subject; should state what was changed

4. The Rating, Validation etc. boxes are far too large and there is too much white space in general on most pages making for unnecessary scrolling (even at 1280x1024 maximized).

5. Need explanation of how and for what Microsoft uses the Rating, Validation etc. info. There's confusion about whether to Rate, Vote or submit another bug report. Do the Product Teams that work on the bug reports actually see this info (Rating, Validation)?

6. Download page too big. Should have one line per item with link to more details. Should have most recent first, not last.

7. Should be link to Announcements in left (navigation) frame, not buried at the end of the Home page, which looks like it hasn't been updated for a long time.

8. The "View All..." or "More..." navigation method is a nuisance - never know whether anything might have been added to the "All" or "More" page or not - either show me everything or give me a link to everything (sorted with most recent first please!)

9. need way to upload file with a Comment.

I'm afraid I don't like it at all. It can download stuff OK, although the download list is cluttered.

However, it has been extremely unreliable. It is very slow. It has been inaccessible quite frequently. It has lost every single bug report I've submitted. And it has never allowed me to submit any feedback, simply because it won't show me the buttons to start the process. All this may well be because of something weird about my internet access or company firewall, but the lack of any list on the site of what was meant to be there has meant that I've been puzzled as to what I should be looking for.

I've slowly found out by reading the newsgroups and asking questions there what I was missing, and have started chasing up help.

Things it needs include:

A summary of what you should find, and how to use the site, rather than an assumption that everyone will see all of what's there.

Some kind of system to alert the people who look after its server that it's gone down again.

Radical simplification of its page generation, to stop it being so very slow.

The notification e-mails for changes in bug reports should include an indication of changes in the bug report.

When this new tool GetHwIdDrivers.exe was released to connect, I came up with another idea for the connect homepage.
How about an option for the connect users to upload these xml files created by the tool to their connect profile. the connect homepage creates an database which contains details about every hardware device of every pc of every user who uploaded the xmls. if a bug is posted on connect and the bug has been confirmed by several users, the connect homepage checks the database with the devicedata to see if the users with this bug are using the same hardware.
hope you understand what i mean. :)

So far, my number one beef with Connect is not being able to view all feedback entered on a topic. Ideally, I'd be able to log in and see all updated feedback since my last visit, since often being able to vote/comment on other people's feedback is very valuable to the team. There is currently no way to do this. I used to be able to use a blank advanced search to view all feedback, but this only returns the first 100 items with NO way to go to a second page.

- Organize all reports into deep nested categories and allow assigning more then one category to them
- Richer UI for comments and reporting. In-browser HTML editors are common now.
- Threaded comments
- Allow to vote on report with single button click - like digg.com

Likes:
1) My Participation page
2) Ability to "see" other beta's
3) File Transfer Manager

Dislikes:
1) No "to do" listing so that you must constantly hunt for surveys ect.
2) Surveys show up as active even after they have been completed.  Is it possiable to show them as completed once they are?
3) Bundeling server builds with os builds.  Makes for a very large download and I personaly do not need nor have the capability to test server builds so they are usless to me.
