It really is a small world

This morning, I received an email forwarded to me, originally from one of the folks on the OneNote team. It was basically forwarding a link to a blog entry by someone with the nom de guerre of Yivvits, a character in the Star Wars: Galaxies MMO who, in his real life, also uses OneNote and Connect. He was kind enough to say some very positive things about Microsoft Connect in his post. The email and his blog entry have been forwarded to the entire Connect Team, and I just wanted to say that we all appreciate the comments.

However, all preening aside, the real reason I posted this is because I used to play SWG myself- I had a character for quite a while. Back when I was still a very active player (this was long before I came to Microsoft), I wrote a community article on how to submit good bug reports for SWG. I just found the coincidence entertaining.

Interesting...

Too bad SOE destroyed SWG and are now the laughing joke of MMOs when SWG was one of the most realistic virtual worlds and games and then to be turned into a glorified RPG with bad content.

I still have SWG accounts, but only keep one active to see if SOE ever 'gets it'.

I hope that vocal people in the development community that were former SWG players can use influence on upcoming MMOs to enstill some of the strong virtual world experiences that the old SWG offered.

Right now, Raph Koster is our only hope to bring balance back to MMOs. :)

Take Care...

Whew! At first I thought you were going to take me out for posting that screenshot. I'm assuming its ok though.  :p

I was really impressed with that bug reporting system. It was a very pleasant experience, as far as bug/issue reporting goes. Within a few minutes, I:

* Searched for an issue I had

* Found somebody else already brought it up

* Found a reply from somebody at MS

* Was able to give input on the issue

* Set up tracking on the issue (automatic)

I'm sure there are tons of change requests or improvements you can't, for one reason or another, deliver on. Thus is the way of development. The difference here (compared to SWG, where all we can do is post our issues in a forum thread) is I can see if my issue has even been looked at. That means so much to somebody who honestly wants to help improve the product.

Keep up the great work and thank you for listening to our show!
