Betaplace Retirement

As many of you have probably noted, Betaplace (http://beta.microsoft.com) has been retired. The last program on Betaplace was closed yesterday. Betaplace, like JDPWeb, Ladybug, WindowsBeta and several other pre-release and beta programs at Microsoft, has been replaced by Connect. They all did great things, and we're still in the process of making sure we get the best of all of those programs folded into Connect.

This milestone is a major one for the Connect team. In the 15 months since Connect launched, we've worked hard to consolidate Microsoft's various beta and pre-relase programs. We're very proud of the progress we've made and the things we've accomplished in terms of getting our customers and product teams to collaborate with one another.

Since Connect launched:

  • Every major organization and nearly every product team in Microsoft has a presence on Connect.
  • Connect has over 600 active programs, and new ones are being launched every day.
  • Connect has served over 1.8 million downloads.
  • Over 200,000 bugs have been submitted (more than 400 a day), including duplicates and suggestions.

We're very excited about the what the future will bring for Connect and how we're going to continue to improve Microsoft's ability to colloborate with our customers.

You guys are doing a great job.  I'm a former program admin for a Connect site, who used it for the last 1.5 years.  It was surprisingly easy to learn and use.

Now if only every team would make the most of it.
