This is a really great app and something I've definitely missed in Vista. However there seems to be some kind of problem with Scandinavian letters.

When I try to use the resizer to photos in folders which have Scandinavian letters in their names, such as kesäkuu (june in Finnish) it gives the following error message:

The following files failed to resize: D:\Omat tiedostot\Kuvat\Kes kuu 2007\Pict4563.jpg

It's not a big problem but hopefully something that could be fixed in future releases.

Thanks for a great program nonetheless.

The picture needs to be of the correct aspect ratio.

This tool does not allow you to do that - you will need to crop the image to the correct ratio before using the tool to do that. Make sure the width and height is the same. then you can use the tool to resize.

Great app. I'm so glad you wrote this to make up for my favorite power toy. Is there any way to change the default sizes on the right click menu? I know you can go in and select custom, but it would be really handy if you could give users the ability to change the sizes available from the right click menu. Or at least add 1280 to the options.

Thanks again for the great tool.

Found this 64 bit solution from a similar blog, works with my Windows Server 2008 64 bit edition, so I guess it should with Vista.

Just run a 32 bit version of Windows Explorer with this command:

%windir%\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate, /root, c:

Nice app, better than MS' version I'd say, as it's intelligent enough to work out that an image is portrait or landscape.

I also await the proper 64 version though.

Hi, awesome program, but as the others there's a problem with non A-Z characters.

I had a "HøDR" folder (ø because the name "HDR" was already taken), and it couldn't continue. Though when I used "HeDR" instead, and it worked perfectly.

Again thanks for the program!

A quick fix to make this work in x64 is to do the following to the registry.

under

HKCR\jpegfile\shell\

Add Key named Resize

Add Key under Resize named command

Modify the (Default) REG_SZ value to full path of ImageResizer.exe and include space %1 at end

Now of course Shahar could add this to his installation script so everyone wouldn't have to do this hack. In addition you could add other file types by going to the other types under the HKCR and doing the same.

Just a heads up for all you x64ers out there like me.

I can confirm that adding the registry values pointed out by Josh do indeed work on XP x64 SP2 fully patched. However, does anyone know how to only get one instance of this great image resizer to come up when resizeing multiple images? Currently, if I select five images to resize I get five different instances of Image resizer.....one for each picture. Any ideas???

Hey All,

this is a great tool! The most missed part of Vista!

The registry hack worked for me fine for about 1 week (x64), but then randomly just dissapeared from my shell????

I have removed the reg key, and re-added it, even moved the .exe file to c:\ and pointed the registry hack to there, but it will not re-appear at all!

Has anyone else had this issue, and if so how did you fix it??

Thanks for your help.

Have used resizer power toy for years, both business and personal. I just bought new computer with XP Pro OS and now realize old resizer no longer available. Found your website thru Google search and downloaded your resizer. Trying to install, am advised MS Net Framework must first be installed. Is there any way to avoid this? Net Framework appears to be quite large, yet I don't no of any other need I will have for it (I really don't even know what it is). I just need resizer as simple and easy to use as the old one. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

I am running Vistax64 and would like to be able to deploy this on client sites without tampering with the registry. Are there any plans for future development to be fully compliant and compatible wit hVista X64. After All, the whole push to x64 was for increased use of the OS, not the current status of greatly reduced functionality when it comes to helper apps such as this. Any feedback would be appreciated.
