Is it taking ages to display the gallery when you are trying to add a web part?
If you find it can sometimes take 20–30 seconds to return the web part gallery so that you can drop a web part onto a web part page then this post is for you. The problem may be because SharePoint is trying to contact the online web part gallery,

Why can't I index SQL Server with SharePoint?

Indexing Individual List Items on a Portal and Returning them in Search Results

HTTP Compression and SharePoint
This is something I have been really interested in exploring, particularly since SPS/WSS sends down approx. 500 kb on first access (OWS.js, ie55up.js, OWS.css, SPS.css) which is quite an issue in low bandwidth deployments. Certianly interested to undertsand
