Off to Bootcamp

This weekend is the first ever South Island code camp - themed in a military way its been called bootcamp.

The focus of sessions over the two days is all the new features and functionality in Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008.

This particular code camp is unique for a couple of reasons:

1) An unprecedented number of Microsoft staff speaking (3)
2) A non-developer talk on Windows Server 2008 - by Nathan
3) Its in the South Island :-)

The speaker line up includes some of the usual's as well as some who are new on the scene, but have proven to be extremely good presenters in the past (and crowd favorites).

I have the first speaker slot and will be doing a demo only overview of Visual Studio 2008 - and I'll be doing it in record time. From there I'll be referencing which sessions will delve a little more deeply into each of the topics.

Even if you've seen my presentation on Visual Studio 2008, I'll have some new stuff in there, so it wont be a complete recite of previous sessions.

BootCamp 07 - November 3-4

You may have already noticed the murmurings of another code camp - just weeks after the last one.

This Code Camp is being organized by the Christchurch crowd (Peter is the front man for it) and will therefore be the first Code Camp ever in the South Island.

The other interesting thing about this code camp (apart from the cool theme) is that it will be focused on getting back to basics in the new wave of technology coming from Microsoft - namely Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008.

Pre-registration is now open, and if you are interested in presenting (and there are some who should put their names down) head over to the Boot Camp home page and register!

Whats with all those non-Wellingtonians not having blogs I can link to?

Day of Code will rock!

Kirk and the guys have done a great job of promoting the Day of Code and with the fantastic speakers they have, why not?!

One of the sessions I'm looking forward to is Tony Goodhew talking about how we build Visual Studio - that will be something different and should be interesting.

Mahesh is also doing a session that combines his two Tech Ed sessions on Dynamic Languages - I know Ivan is looking forward to that session.

Over 230 people are signed up to attend - this will be a very cool event - sign up if you haven't already!

Day of Code

I've been bad to my good community peoples and haven't posted about this (sorry guys), although Nigel did (thanks Nigel!).

The .Net User Groups are having a day of Code the day before Tech Ed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Auckland.

This is a free event (registration required) where you can hear speakers talking about a range of topics from language to architecture and a host of things in between.

Given that this event is the day before Tech Ed I've been working with Kirk to try and get some of the Tech Ed speakers along to speak.

So - as I dont see announcements anywhere else, I'm pleased to announce that speaking at the Day of Code will be:

Mahesh Prakriya (Program Manager Dynamic Language Runtime)
Tony Goodhew (Microsoft Corp based Visual Studio 2008 Guru)
Tom Hollander (Architect and ex Patterns and Practices guru from Microsoft Corp)
Adam Cogan (Aussie RD and Tech Ed TFS speaker)

Actually there will be others as well so the day should be pretty cool, and all this for no cost. So get along if you can.

.Net Code Camp - Architecture for developers

If you didn't already know the .Net User Groups are holding their next code camp in Auckland on April 14-15. The theme is Architecture, Patterns and Practices.

Even if you are not an architect this event will give you a great opportunity to improve your coding skills and help you step up a level.

There are some great speakers lined up for the event including Jeremy Boyd, Andrew Peters, Ivan Towlson and Alex James.

Because the event is run by the .Net User Groups its free - you just have to make your way up to Auckland (if you are not already there).

The registration page is now live, so if you are keen to go, make sure you register while you can- seats are limited and this is the first time its been held in Auckland, so it should sell out.

I'm going to head up there, so I'll see you there!
