Visual Studio Team Foundation B3 Setup Issue #1: TfsSetup account!

OK, I’m installing TFS B3 and I’ve hit the first speed hump:

In the TFS installation guide, it instructs the user to create a number of accounts, one of these is a TfsSetup account. It then tells you to log-in as this account to perform the setup.

Gotcha! If that account is only in the Administrators group, and not in the STS_WPG, then the setup will fail with a wonderfully descriptive error, “Windows Sharepoint Services is not installed correctly”.

So make sure you add whatever account you are logged in as during the TFS install into the STS_WPG group.
