Where can I download Beta 2 Technical Refresh for SharePoint?

Last week, we released b2tr for SharePoint. The first thing I urge you to do is read the instructions to install the patch and also the readme. The time spent understanding what the product group has spent time documenting will save you alot of time vs trying to go at it on your own.

Automate the creation of the BDC application defintion

Whew! The BDC is a powerful way to tie LOB data into the MOSS2007 environment. If you spend some time with the MOSS SDK, then you can see how to manually generate a BDC application definition based upon the data you want to tap into.

Now, the obvious question is how to make it easier?

How to save a site as a template in Beta 2?

So a colleague asked where's the save site to a template located. I told him to check out the Site Settings page. NO joy! Here's a quick work around. Visit the site you want to save as a site template. URL should look like http://servername/sites/sitename/default.aspx. Replace default.aspx with _layouts/savetmpl.aspx. Now you should see the Save Site as Template page.

How to add a SSP scope to a display group in MOSS2007?

MOSS2007 has two levels of scopes: scopes that are created in a SSP and scopes that are created in a Site Collection. In Beta 2, the SSP scopes that you created must be added to the Display Groups in a Site Collection.

Here's how:

Create your SSP scope via the Central Administration site
Login to your top-level Site Collection with an account to manage Search scopes
Click on Site Actions, Site Settings, Modify All Site Settings
Under Site Collection Administration, click Search scopes
Click Search Dropdown link next to Display Group
On the Edit Scope Display Group, you can enable the SSP scope you created earlier, change the order of the list and select the default scope.
Click OK to save your changes.

Now that was easy!
