Cal Roach knows a ton about all kinds of music. Along with his girlfriend, Jennifer, they have exposed me to tons of great music over the past year or so - either by outright saying, "Here, check this out!" or slipping me a copy of the latest International Mixtape Project disc they've received.

Cal is blogging now and kicks things off with a HUGE review of his trip to Bonaroo. Lets hope he keeps it up! His reviews of albums are usually killer and always right on the mark.

By way of Kevin Cole's email list, there is some awesome footage of the Replacements playing at the First Avenue's 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis:

As a regular listener to my show you know I’m a big Replacements fan. I was doing some Replacements related surfing the other night and came across a bunch of great 1981 performance footage from the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis. Having worked at First Avenue/7th Street Entry at the time of these recordings (and having been present at these shows) I was aware of this footage but had never seen it. Incredible stuff--unbelievably focused performance--the band is so on and Tommy looks so damn young (14 or 15 at the time?). Let’s hope this performance/footage is released on DVD when the Replacements re-issues come out!!! For now, enjoy these clips:

I've only seen a handful of show at "The Entry" (Jane's Addiction the only notable act that comes to mind). It is a very intimate venue. The other cool thing is this is a few years before Prince would make 1st Ave famous in Purple Rain.

Even though I don't live in Seattle I love KEXP (almost as much as WMSE, but then again having spent four year on the air there, I am biased). Nice to see them get some love on the new on10.net web site - one of the things I love about KEXP is their use of technology.

Too bad Kevin Cole didn't make it into the video, being a Minneapolis native I have to say he was one of my biggest music influences growing up. Depth Probe parties at First Ave were awesome (as was Radio Depth probe on the old KJJO).
