This MSDN Forum post seems to answer a question I was wondering about regarding whether I should download the Toolkit source code and rebuild in release mode:

http://forums.asp.net/p/1206368/2113696.aspx#2113696

I think it might be helpful to add some guidelines regarding this to the Toolkit setup instructions.

re: Brought to you by community contributions [AJAX Control Toolkit release!]

martillo,

Thanks for the suggestion! I've looked again now and I agree that we could be clearer about how the JavaScript comment removal process works. I've just opened work item 15331 to track this request:

http://www.codeplex.com/AtlasControlToolkit/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=15531

As you probably discovered by now, the current implementation only removes comments from JavaScript files when the Toolkit is compiled in Release (vs. Debug) mode. The reason for this is that compilation in Debug mode suggests that active debugging is going on and so the developer probably wants to benefit from all the comments and legibility of the original source code - Release is typically set once everything is working and it's time to publish to a live web site.

Hope this helps!
