I really hate this. I know that there's nothing that can be done about it, but I am still miffed by my inability to use my 2 XBox v1 extenders against Vista. I purchased the XBoxes about a year and a half ago specifically for this purpose. Yes, I know, I could still use them against a MCE2k5 install, but that's entirely beside the point. I like Vista. I like the interface, I like the functionality, and everything else about it. I'm not going to go back to 2k5, so I'm stuck with a pair of XBox V1 consoles, doing nothing but collecting dust.
Why don't you run the Open Source XBMC on each old Xbox? That should let you watch shows recorded on your Vista Media Center PC.
