What BillG said at WinHEC about Pika
So it has been theorized that BillG announced a "SoftSled" at WinHEC. That is not the case. What he said was that the functionality to remote Media Center onto an Xbox 360 will be available in other CE devices like TVs. This is the Pika project that allows CE partners (e.g. people who make hardware) to add MCX to their deviecs (there is an MCX session later this week on how to do this). There are no plans to make a software-based MCX.

So was BillG suggesting that Pika hardware be built into Laptops & Desktop Monitors?

I want to extend our Media Center living room experience to our laptops!!!  Why is this so difficult to get?

There's obviously demand for a 'softsled'. Why not produce one, or at least have MCE able to talk to other MCEs in the same way?

Well, at this point, both BeyondTV and SageTV office complete Softsled type solutions. SageTV goes even further to offer a complete MC solution as well as software and hardware MCX solutions.

I mean, for Pete's sake, how difficult would it be to allow existing Vista Premium systems to connect over a network and use the resources of another. ASNWER: Not hard at all if 3rd parties can do so on there own. Microsoft has an agenda; pure and simple.

Another bonus - M$ peeps are DRM Junkies; and SageTV and BeyondTV are not.

Personally, I prefer the Vista Premium MC interface, but I'll take functionality, compatibility, and expandability simple interface preference every time
