Sounds of Silence

I came back from the far east and got buried by email and meetings. Plus my stupid HP laptop is still stupid - now the both the built in wireless and the PCMCIA card slot are not working correctly so I can't get on wireless. Amazing how quickly the ability

Final Day of My Far East Trip

I said yesterday that the Metropolis session had gone very well. Got the score back - 7.71/9 speaker satisfaction and 7.83/9 content satisfaction. Not bad, esp. given that it was a translated session. Today, I presented Data in SOA, and I thought it well

Metropolis in Beijing

So the Metropolis session went very well, even though it was being translated. We did what is called interactive translation - where I say a few sentences in English and then Quanzhan translated it into Chinese. It meant that we couldn't cover as much

Stage 1 on New WS Specs

I'll be honest, with a quick glance at WS-Enumeration and WS-Transfer I'm at what Don refers to as Stage 1. Especially WS-Transfer which appears at first glance to be CRUD for web services. Maarten talks about using CRUD only when you can afford it .

Preparing to Present in Beijing

I made it to Beijing yesterday with no problem. There was a car waiting for me at the airport, and one of the speaker managers met me at my hotel shortly after I arrived. They even provide a loner dopod SmartPhone for use while I'm here though I'm not

Gurpreet on Enterprise Architecture

I just finished my Data in SOA talk for TechEd Malaysia. The room was very hot and the session was right after lunch - not exactly optimal conditions. I did OK - could have been better. Between time in hotels and on airplanes with nothing to do but code,

Quick Architecture Takes

It's been quiet around here as I'm prepping for my next trip abroad. TechEd Malaysia and Bejing are next week and I'm presenting at both, plus I'm stopping over in Tokyo to meet with the local field architects. Should be pretty cool. I did TechEd Malaysia

Software Factories at OOPSLA

Keith blogged about his hectic days since he returned from vacation. Getting a book published, preparing for a BillG review, you know all the usual stuff. :) I keep waiting for my hardcopy of Software Factories , and Keith wrote that it should hit the

Presenting Software Factories

I presented Software Factories for the first time today and I think I did a pretty good job. We had some architects were in town from a new managed SI partner and they wanted to discuss modeling. They are (were?) an IBM partner, so they're a big WebSphere
